Yes, Messi could play for like 100 grand a year, but among elite players in their sports, only Tom Brady, whose wife is one fo the richest women on planet earth who doesn't own a Fortune 500 company, has taken a truly sizable pay-cut to stay with a team/help a team win. Don't really think this comes down to Messi being greedy.
