It’s back! Some quick notes, via Stats Zone: City have won six in a row against Arsenal. Sergion Aguero has 10 goals in his last 12 against the Gunners, and KDB has four goals and two assists in his last seven. Yikes. The game starts at 1215 pm PST. I’ll be in here right around then, but as always, feel free to chat amongst yourselves before I get in.
All right. Was nice for the PL to star back up, but that was not the smoothest return -- the first-ever hawkeye malfunction, multiple Arsenal injuries, the Garcia thing. Nothing new to report just yet: City are great, Arsenal are not, and David Luiz is our God. Love chatting with you all; thanks to everyone who hopped in. We'll do it again soon. Get well, Garcia.
First game: decisive technological error. Second game: A completely drama-less, multi-goal City win and multiple David Luiz hijinks. The Premier League is back baby!
I think InfoGOL publish their model on Twitter during games sometimes. You can buy the Total Football app, which has Opta xG data in it. And FBRef don't release game data until the next day typically.
I guess this is sort of what you'd expect from two teams who haven't played in three months and have also had three months to game-plan for each other.
To be clear...I’ve been losing money betting on soccer (now on multiple leagues!) this whole time. Nicer weather and work have just been getting in way of what’s truly important...sharing my degenerate lifestyle with you all
in general, its been wise to go Road team or pass since soccer returned. In the bundesliga, blind betting road teams those first two weeks was particularly valuable. The pricing still appears to be weighing in homefield
as someone who frequently relies on hair styles to identify players on the field, i'm proposing that one of David Luiz and Matteo Guendouzi should have to cut their hair
Seems like a strategy that makes sense when you've got five substitutions to burn. Using two within the first twenty minutes probably wasn't part of the plan, but...
What was that farce with the goalie and the ball crossing the line. How do both goal line tech and VAR both fail in that situation? What is VAR for if not this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xowj6Qx78so
Definitely a pretty big disconnect between the front office and the new coach. Pepe was Sanllehi's big signing! (I don't think Pepe is particularly good, and it wasn't a smart signing, fwiw.)
Under late Wenger we (Arsenal) had no idea what to do without the ball. Now we look decent without the ball but don't have too many ideas what to do with it. Progress??? Whatever, at least Emery is gone.
Every team should have to use David Luiz for a season.
That's incredible. It feels like we may have just seen his last PL game

*start
thanks ryan!
David Luiz immediately plays a 50-yard diagonal through ball with his first touch in three months. I love him.
just texted an arse buddy - they're lucky that injury happened, no reason Luiz should've been on the bench.
how, uh, is your buddy doing?
Lol whoops!
City have completely taken over since posted something about Arsenal's press. The curse continues.
*since I
appreciate your support

That is ... well ... congrats Sam!
on to (illegally streaming) atletico!
There's an assist for KDB (I think). Four more to break the record.
FPL gave it to him and then took it away. For whatever that's worth (nothing?)
Yep, from what I'm seeing I don't think it's gonna count. Back to 5.
I'm sorry but human beings shouldn't be able to make passes like that, helped by the defender or not
I ... don't hate the Arsenal lineup. Why not play the kids? When Ozil, Pepe, and Lacazette were playing, the team was still bad.
I was going to say Pepe *is* one of the kids, but apparently he's already 25. When did that happen?
Halftime expected goals update from Stats Perform: 1.18 for City, 0.16 for Arsenal
good GOD
That feels about right. I’m assuming that data isn’t typically public anywhere?

Something about Dani Ceballos wearing a "Black Lives Matter" strip on his jersey doesn't quite sit right. https://www.goal.com/brasilglobaltour/en-ca/news/4171/main/2017/06/28/36687752/who-is-dani-ceballos-the-controversial-madrid-target-who
“Get out of the country Catalans”... isn’t that sort of their main objective?
I guess this is sort of what you'd expect from two teams who haven't played in three months and have also had three months to game-plan for each other.
With defending like that, Pablo Mari's gonna fit in just fine at Arsenal.
Has anyone wagered on the outcome? We need someone to root for.
Man city +1.5 (I’m back)
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
To be clear...I’ve been losing money betting on soccer (now on multiple leagues!) this whole time. Nicer weather and work have just been getting in way of what’s truly important...sharing my degenerate lifestyle with you all
almost pulled the trigger on this too so i salute you

with that said, left this bad boy alone.
I have wagered theoretical money on Luiz + Mustafi being hilarious today.
as someone who frequently relies on hair styles to identify players on the field, i'm proposing that one of David Luiz and Matteo Guendouzi should have to cut their hair
anyone second screening the Coppa Italia? if La Liga this weekend had PS1 FIFA fake crowds, id say this is PS2 level fake crowds.
just tuned in. what were the odds an Arse player would get injured in the first 10 min? had to be a -125 favorite right?
If that's Sane instead of Sterling (receiving the through-ball from De Bruyne on that counter attack), that's getting ripped one-time onto goal.
15 minutes left for Sheffield U +135, let's go!
Oh no. I turned away and missed what happened. Anyone able to give me a synopsis of what happened to Garcia?
Eesh. I have been punched by my own keeper before and concussed, but never like that and never by Ederson. Let's hope he's all right. Damn.
Leno played a long ball forward to Auba who was marked by Garcia. It bounced and Ederson ran out of the box to head it away and clotheslined Garcia.
Ederson trucked him clearing a through ball on the edge of the area
And also similar to when he attacked Mane's foot with his face a couple years back. There's a pattern of behavior here
Any bright spots from Arsenal in the first hour? (Serious question.) What do you guys think?
Luiz can't play in the next game?
Leno
My only impression so far is that Arsenal are pressing relatively high, and it's been relatively effective.
Seems like a strategy that makes sense when you've got five substitutions to burn. Using two within the first twenty minutes probably wasn't part of the plan, but...
It should be 2-0. Leno is the early MOTM
That Sterling hit would have cleared the roof
David Luiz never disappoints. C'mon City!!!!
Dortmund wyd
kieran tierney looking solid, as in, not causing massive disasters
Didn't watch any of the arsenal/man city game. But it sounds like David Luiz had a good game....
Have I mentioned how much I love David Luiz?
David LOLuiz
KDB even plays his centerbacks into space
I stand by my take that Ederson has the worst tattoo in all of professional sports.
you're not officially a brazilian / portuguese footballer w/o a neck tattoo though
Oh for sure but his is just egregious
What was that farce with the goalie and the ball crossing the line. How do both goal line tech and VAR both fail in that situation? What is VAR for if not this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xowj6Qx78so
Here's the actual incident if people missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhegCRmcFB0
Same old Arsenal
So can Arsenal say anything about this game other than don’t bring Luiz next time?
Luckily the rules prevent them from bringing him even if they want to.
was that necessary by Ederson
Is there any chance that sane gets a few minutes at the end of the game?
Damn, horrible time to have to go pick up my car. Missed vintage David Luiz
Might have been your last chance.
If I learned anything in my time as a Chelsea fan, David Luiz will always find his way back
Chicago Fire’s David Luiz? LA Galaxy’s David Luiz? inter Miami?
I don’t think I can handle the thought of him somehow finding his way into Columbus
I’m a Red Bull’s fan. I’ll pray for us both.
How does Pepe not even get in to this team with 5 subs?
Definitely a pretty big disconnect between the front office and the new coach. Pepe was Sanllehi's big signing! (I don't think Pepe is particularly good, and it wasn't a smart signing, fwiw.)
Because of the money or because he isn't good enough?
woah, coppa italia on espn with some advanced stats. a chart with both teams' forwards "Received Pressure"
Weird moving stand graphics at the Coppa Italia
I'd almost forgotten about city's penalty woes until I saw De Bruyne step up there
David Luiz is an international treasure
He’s just trying to bring us back to the good times. The world may change, but David Luis stays the same
Tom Hanks supports Villa?
City seemed to have figured Arsenal out that las 20. Interesting to see how Arteta responds
with better players? in several years?
Ah, so 3-0 you’re saying?
I've missed you David Luiz.

Problem is: the latter is way easier to coach than the former.
Just a matter of time before City converts. Possession has to be 70-30, right?
65-35
i know sunk cost is a thing, but it's crazy pepe isnt starting this match
Respect to Arteta for making that call. But also: we don't know exactly how fit everyone is.
Saka v Mendy should be really fun to watch
Is this a comment on the fact that it has not been really fun to watch?
LOL just think it's an interesting matchup but yeah nothing has happened on their end so far.
